A 14-year-old boy was discovered deceased just days after being wrongly blamed of stealing the ashes of a dead baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has heard.

Heartbreaking Finding

Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his body in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Allegations Begin

The investigation heard how his mother received a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The communication added: "Tell him thanks for breaking into my flat."

In a statement presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, claiming her infant's remains had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An investigation report from police later determined the supposed burglary victim had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the items was not taken in the beginning".

News coverage about the supposed taken ashes generated social media comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his mother said individuals "understood it was him".

The "online posts were really distressing", she stated.

Mental Wellbeing Effect

She explained that Kai had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views genuinely were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was untrue".

Kai was detained at his residence, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a police station and later released under investigation.

Police said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had failed to reached out to the family by the moment of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could feel like much longer".

When she talked to him about the supposed incident, she said her child informed her he had gone into the residence because the woman who lived there had said he could use the toilet anytime he wanted, but refuted taking anything.

Digital Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, the mother said her son was being bullied digitally after the accusations.

The inquest heard that a young adult urged Kai to end his life.

She had no worries on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "caring, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she stated, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The inquest heard from school personnel at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On November 8th, she "heard some students talking that the student had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the discussion, the educator said she called Kai's parents' landline and left a message saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings learned his family said they never got that communication.

Official Conclusion

Lead coroner told the hearing he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with suspects with the condition, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future deaths report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old individual.

"Probably untruths were afterwards embellished and amplified through the platform of online networks.

"During 11 November, he was questioned by the police and following his interview he was released while inquiries continued."

The coroner concluded: "There is no proof that the acts or omissions of any organization caused or added to his passing and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is impossible to discern his purpose."
