Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson revealed he narrowly avoided a potentially deadly collision during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when a pair of track officials ran across the track right in his path

The concerning event took place on the third rotation when track officials were spotted on the track as Lawson was getting back on the race following an early pitstop to swap his damaged front wing

Competitor's Live Reaction

Shortly afterward, the team's competitor Lawson communicated to his race engineer saying: "Is this for real? Could you believe what happened? I might have... taken their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was observing"

"I came out on a new set of hards, and then I got to Turn One and suddenly there were two dudes running across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Evidently there's been a communication breakdown somewhere but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a active circuit track officials can be authorized to just run across the track like that. I have no idea why, I'm certain we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"

Governing Body Reviewing

Formula 1's governing body, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is actively examining the events

"Following a turn one incident, track officials was advised that wreckage remained on the track at the apex of that corner" declared the FIA

"On lap three, safety personnel were notified and put on alert to enter the track and clear the fragments once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had pitted, the instructions to dispatch marshals were withdrawn and a caution signal was shown in that section"

"We are still investigating what occurred subsequent to that time"
